Calculations and variable kind

Calculations and variable kind

In the same table:

- Q10A is a discrete variable: Daisie has associated the calculations population size and percentages with it.
- Q10B is a continuous variable: Daisie has associated the calculations population size and mean with it.

Reminder of some of the principles

Calculations and variable kind

In Daisie, calculations are associated with the variables. Consequently, the calculations offered are automatically those that correspond to the kind of variable in question (continuous or discrete). Daisie detects what kind of variable it is when the variable is being defined. Hence, only specific cases need to be indicated.

Calculations in the body and at the head / foot of the table

Cross tabulations are obtained by crossing the variables put in Rows with the variables put in Columns. The calculations that appear at the intersection of these rows and columns are those in the body of the table and depend on the kind of variables put in rows in the table.

The calculations at the head and foot of the table are either derived from the table or show the marginals (base size, no answers...). They are called “marginals” because they can either be put above or below the body of the table.

Weighted / unweighted calculations

When processing data from a sample that has been reweighted to reflect the real population by applying an individual weighting, we talk of weighted results. All calculations are available on either a weighted or unweighted base.
